What kind of amp would you suggest?

One thing to keep in mind.

For a Peavey Classic 30 to sound decent it needs to be turned up pretty loud, too. That goes for any tube amp without some sort of attenuator on it. Even my little Fender Pro Jr with only 15 watts and a 10" speaker can get plenty loud enough to have the cops called on you. And that's just at the point it starts to sound good.

Just one more thought on the Classic 30....

Great little amp, it's the first amp I ever owned. BUT plan on replacing tubes, even if you buy it brand new. New, they came with either chinese or Sovtek tubes (depending on the year), but both don't do justice to what this amp is capable of. If you want suggestions on what would be good tube substitutions, go look at the Peavey Guitar and Amp forum on Peavey's website and browse the converations and ask your questions.

I switched out for JJ Tesla tubes from Bob at eurotubes.com. Damn that guy knows what he's talking about. I called him up, told him what amp I had, what guitars I used, and what type of sound I was going for. He instantly knew that I should get grade #34 (at least I think it was 34, don't remember, but he knew what it needed) tubes to get the sparkly, slightly edgy sound I was after.

I managed to get ahold of one of the Peavey 112e matching extention cabinets, so now I run the C30 as its regular openback cab, and the extention as closed back. I've also swapped the Peavey speakers out of both and replaced them with real, made-in-England Celestion Greenbacks. Wow does this thing sound good.
