I love 70s music... Issac Hayes style especially, and al green.. commodores..etc..
and i do hiphop, love 2pacs beats, (especially on the makaveli album) because they were always real musical.

so where do i find sounds like these? i know most of it if not all was probably live instruments and great mixing skills. but as far as finding the kind of keys they used, synths, and some nice keyboard/module strings and guitar that can emulate the sound they had. what products should i be looking at?

im not liking where hiphop is going so im not jumping on the bandwagon as profitable as it might be. i want to keep it musical... (I hear great music in my head, hum it perfectly.. but my sounds are software... limp, lame, weak.. it hurts my ears and my soul)

so i need some great modules to ressurect a lost sound, only i dont know where to look and cant afford to hire musicians...

since no one else has responded....

i can't really comment on the musicians that you listed, but i do know that alot of older hiphop relied heavily on sampled drums and sounds and also synths. there is no reason that with only software you cannot get the sound you are looking for. it just takes time to get the right sound.

i cant really offer any more advice, other than the fact that the e-mu mophatt synth and/or module is geared toward hiphop sounds etc. maybe that will help.

No agreement

the Wonderful 70's music........ and Hip Hop, have nothing in common.

Make up your mind.

DO you want to attempt making great music, or noise?

yea i dont really want hiphop sounds tho. i want old 70s type sounds. like issac hayes type stuff. roy ayers synths. the old stuff.

guess i wasnt too clear, im no good with explaining. i just want old vintage sounds but i dont know what they used. i dont care for hiphop sounds i think they all sound the same and are pretty thin/lame.

the hiphop you've heard may be noise. the hiphop i like was more musical. it had the same feel of 70s records that full music with a nice vibe, and used more live playing then samples. and they have lots in common considering they are sampled more then any other era

either help or dont post. if you can tell me where to find the sounds used back then or decent reproductions then lemme kno.

I think Reason would do alot of what you want it to do. Its got some great sounds on it and you can tweak it to your hearts desire. You'd still need a multitrack program to put it audio (vocals, etc) but it has alot of the instrumentation I think you're looking for.

Do a google for Reason 3.0 or go to www.propellerhead.se to hear some samples.

I know exactly what you are talking about since I was born in 1970 and listened and still listen to those bands you mentioned..Reason aint gonna do it beleive me...Im not saying you have to spend an arm and a leg either, you could go either hardware or software...check your PM Box

I guess you aint never listened to rap before...the whole existence of rap revolved around the wonderful sounds of the 70s music...not so much today though

I'd love to hear a sound Reason can't make...

rhodes, whurlie, clav: all big time funk and soul instruments of the 70's

All of those are in Reason. I just completed a track in Protools using a Clav from Reason.

Can't comment on the Voyager, not familar with that sound.

Reason has a piano
fantomx has a piano
triton has a pian0
motif has a piano
yet they all sound different.they all have different sound engines.for example the piano on the fantomx sounds nice to me and more then good enough for anything I need..however someone who plays piano is gonna probably like the motif the best..cause of the piano sounds..are extremely realistic...now in reason most all instruments are in there but how close is the representation of it is necessary in the music you are trying to create? If you want an awsome electric piano,or clav,or moog bass it aint gonna come from reason..even though the ones they have may be sufficient for what you trying to create. To me the reason sounds are thin...wich doesnt always mean bad..i know you can tweak, and run through effects etc...but still the reasons sound engine it is what it is? the sound epidemic is looking for can still be achieved by software (although i prefer hardware) buy some old c.ds he was talking about..they had multiple keyboard players, horn players and the way it was recorded was different to alot of recordings today..wich gave such a nice sound.

I understand your point 50, but mine is this...epidemic is on the homerecording site, which probably means he's like the most of us which is a just over broke hobbyist. Sure he can go buy a moog, if he's got $3 grand lying around, he can buy a wurlitzer, he can hire session musicians...but, for $400 he can have a software version of all of it.

Reason 3.0 has been updated and now has a mastering suite that helps with that thinness you're referring to. The demo songs on it sound awesome, have you heard any?

home recording doesnt just mean budget..although you probably are right about most on a budget....Im not even saying he has to buy a moog or an original rhodes...but his original complaint was the software sounds being thin and lame..and that he is looking for some modules.....so reason is out of the whole scenario...Its important for him as well as others when asking for advice to factor in the budget......on a small budget he can maybe look into a E.M.U. vintage keys plus for his electric pianos...you can find those for about 150 on ebay and he can get an SE1 atc(not atcx) for around 300 and the atc aint no punk..its analog and has basses and leads that he likes when listening to his tupac type beats....i have friends with reason, its cool, but Its like comparing a Kia sephia with a ferrari...they both get you where ya need to go but ferrari has more power, better looks, and sounds way beefier
