The D8B has done nothing but impress me. The desk is absolutely awesome. You said you can get one new for about 6000? that's a pretty allright price. The D8B interfaces perfectly with the HDR 2496. Ruebarb, im using those Mackie monitors too, well, i only use them sometimes. they sound too nice! im used to mixing with ns-10's and stuff like that. i usually use the mackies to playback and check the mix over.

You can get the HDR2496 with a DVD RAM backup drive which is handy. find out about it.

I had a DMXR100 for a month. I was going to buy one at one stage so i was given one on trial to test it. But i just didn't really get onwith it. stunning facilities, and it had a great display. i preffered the option of plug ins with the d8b though and the overall feel of the desk. didin't like the faders on the sony. no eq bypass on the sony either which was a bit odd. so i ended up with 2 D8B's instead and right now, i have no complaints whatsoever!

Absolulte,

Have you tried the Aardvark? I had someone in the studio the other day singing praises for aardvark cards so id say they were probably pretty great.

Bear in mind you will need a console if you wanna mix with hardware...

well, I did it...but damn

Bought the used D8B - but it's been bloody hell getting the thing to work like it's supposed to.

I'm going to upgrade the HD tomorrow in a vain attempt to get 3.0 working on it...we'll see, I guess. Till then, I'll assume some of the problems will go away when it's loaded.

Aha! Another person who has used the TM-D1000. I bought one last month because I wanted digital clarity, and so far I've got it.

Yes, digital boards are hard to figure out. So was Cool Edit Pro, when I first got it. (Come to think of it, so was my pedal steel.) So am I supposed to dump 'em and go blow a couple of hundred thou on something else?...or wait 5 years until something "good enough" for me is built? Or should I sit down with the manual so I can get results today?

And exCUSE me, I've got kids in college. I'd rather get gear I can (almost) afford and kill with it NOW than sit around and wait for perfection.

Here's the essential problem I have with you guys yelling "brand X sucks!" or "brand Z--only idiots use it!":
A little parable. When I was attending college I raced a couple of motorcycles, a Bultaco Metrella in the production class and a Honda Super Hawk-based 350 GP class bike [yes, it was back before the Civil War]. Seems like I had a number of conversations where I was told by a non-racer with a superior air, "I'd love to race, but I'm gonna wait until I can do it RIGHT."

Right.

Guess who was out there racing and guess who else was staying home telling the ladies what a hero he'd have been if he only had the right equipment?

Run what ya brung, guys.

I'm perfectly willing to believe you have golden ears and mine are pot metal. I'm ready to concede that your recordings are gorgeous in every respect, and I'll nominate you for a Grammy the next time they ask me.

Just don't tell me I can't get results just because I use gear you don't approve of.

John - who has told you ANYTHING?????
As far as I can see.... nobody

The purpose of this forum - people aske questions - and people try and respond.

Take your comments into consideration, and someone would ask:
"what do you think of......"
answer 1 - cool answer 2 - cool. etc.
Not much use right?

Well, I was really responding to the first page of this stuff...and to my experience in asking questions on other threads and being told to "buy something else" when I wanted to know how to hook things up.

Guess I'll go throw my crappy gear in the river and hang myself with a 30' mic cable (no, I won't tell you what brand...it'll just embarass my widow).
John

Nobody in this thread told you anything like that, neither did you ask us one question.
Seems you're a bit frustrated, which is not exactly our problem is it?

all better now

apparently, upgrading from 2.0.1 to 3.0 has a few problems with the D8B board...

I downgraded to 2.0.3, got it loading, called Tech support, and they said try again now that I had 2.0.3 working..

So far I've felt pretty blown away...not bad but I'm still working on getting the reverbs/compressor settings sounding decent.
