What is word clock?

A Word Clock is the timing reference for digital audio. Every digital device has one and some are better then others. Better word clocks can mean better sound. Most pro devices have WC inputs and outputs for syncing other digital devices. Most consumer gear does not which sucks because they could use an external WC more than the pro gear.
