Look at some used kits. You don't have to be limited to new, and you could probably pick up a better used kit for the money than a new one. Or, if you have a little time, make them yourself. It's really easy, and a whole lot cheaper. Most of the name companies use Keller shells. You can buy them pre drilled for hardware and with a bering edge of your choice. For 1,200 bucks you can make yourself a bad ass pro line kit. The only thing you won't be getting is a snazzy pro finish, but maybe you or someone you know is good with finishes and you can end up with a nice looking kit as well! Besides I'd take sound over looks anyday.
