What is the proper way to use my Compresor, Inline, or?

Hey yall, trying to figure out which is the "right" way to use a hardware comp. Right now this is how I have it setup. I just put together my "studio room" (roommate moved out, but I now can afford the place on my own, so using his old room). So it would be a Rode NTK to a DMP3 Mic Pre, then to a Presonus Bluemax comp to a Delta 44, is this proper? I was thinking, because the BlueMax is -10, but the DMP3 is +4 (I think. Anyways, my bro and I were trying to figure it out, but cant come up with a answer. So any advice would be awesome, thanks in advance

The comp after the pre is the definite way to go...

That sounds right. As for matching levels (or gain-staging, if you will), I don't know those units, but I suspect you have enough room in the gain/trim adjustments to make it work fine.
