Still trying to find my way into HD recording nirvana..The Digi 001 was way cool and "maybe" it's the way to go.When I first posted on this board I think it was Drstawl recomended I might get to where I need with the Ark 20/20. I cruised through a local used gear mag the other day and saw a yamaha pro1 digital mixing console for $700. 20 bit A/d conversion and motorized sliders that are controlled via the PC. It would seem that this would be cooler than the Ark 20/20 or the Digi001. I just want to get decent quality recordings of my songs on a demo CD without spending my kids college fund. In my very rooky view The pro1 with a cubase, cakewalk or protools software package to edit seems like it might be a slick way to acheive this. Opinions from you who have traveled this rocky road of misinformation will be appreciated.

If my memory of Namm serves me right, you're comparing a couple of nice PC sound cards to a mixer with a 20 bit digital converter onboard and the option for PC control of the mixer. You're still going to need some way to get the digital signal onto your HD if you want to play with it on your PC. This means at a minimum $200 - $300 extra. However, one of those standalone CDR/RW burners with an appropriate digital I/O plus this mixer might be a good choice. But the PC used for digital recording as well as slider control is much more flexible than the just the mixer/burner duo.

This puzzle is slowly coming together. So in order to get this onto Hard disc in the PC I'll need a sound card. I have to assume that my awe32 pnp with the optional spdif would be to low of quality. the audiomedia3 could possibly be an inexpensive choice.Any other recomendations on best bang for my buck soundcards? In regards to the question of Hard disc or cd-rw as a destination for storage, there is now a third more expensive yet possibly best of best choices for data that is the new DVD-Ram...any opinions out there on this new media?

If your current soundcard has digital I/O I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's too cheap to sound good without first trying it.
