I agree with the "short is good" line here. I usually think in the opposite direction - if my song goes over three minutes I immediately get worried about that.
Plus a short song may get aired more on the radio (hey, we just got two minutes here, what do we squeeze in?)! I dunno, just a thought...
But of course - it has a lot to do with the genre. I really like Beatles, Ramones and 60's soul - plenty of songs about two minutes there.
