What is the major difference between this two programs?

Cool edit pro 2, Vs ( Cubase, and cakewalk)

I'm a newbie at these programs....I used cool edit right now cuz it's so damn easy.

BUT WHAT IS THE MAJOR DIFFERENCE!!! I need to know. More features i'm guessing? better sound?

Programs like Cool Edit, Cakewalk, Fruity Loops etc. are nice and easy to use, but when you want full control over every aspect of your sound, you need something like Cubase or Logic or ProTools. It's mostly a control thing, although some consumer programs (like Cool Edit) offer quite a lot of control.
 
Cakewalk is a company, it is not a program.

Yes Cakewalk Homestudio is an easy to use program like Cool Edit and Fruity Loops, but Cakewalk Sonar 4 PE is no less a program than the latest Cubase or Logic. Don't muddy the issue.

This is bunk, I use both Cubase and Sonar, and I find there is little functional difference between them. To date, there hasn't really been anything that would make me choose one over the other (which is why I use both :D)
 
Although I haven't used every piece of software out there, my perception is that, among the major manufacturers (Steinberg, Cakewalk, etc.), the packages are similar in features at the varying pricepoints. The differences are largely going to be in the layout of the interface (which is still relatively similar). Some will find one interface more friendly/intuitive, while others may gravitate toward a different interface. Kind of like Mac vs. Pc. vs Unix, etc. What is intuitive for you may not be so for me. Most of the manufacturers offer demo versions online that you can try out for just that reason. If you like it, you can buy the full version. If not, try another.
 
Ok, sorry about that. I have only messed with an old version of Cakewalk and it was no Cubase. I have no clue about Sonar, however I still think programs like FruityLoops and (pretty much) CoolEdit are not as functional as Cubase/Logic.
 
How is the current version of Home Studio? I had the first one years ago, and it just didn't work very well, and this seemed to be the opinion (of that first release) in general. Have they cleaned up their act?
