here's the story, its very simple:

i live in Belgium (europe) and i got a bunch of american equipment,
works fine with all those little adapters (220 --> 110 v)

but now i wonder, is there an easy solution to use like 5 different US machines at the same time ?

can i (for example) buy a regular american power strip
(like this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32830&item=5709399967&rd=1)

and plug all my US equipment to it, and just put ONE strong adaptor before this entire power strip ?!

or do i really need an adaptor on EACH compressor,.....

or......isn't it good at all to use 19" American rack stuff in europe ?

thanx,

damn

i should know more about electricity...

so here you see a converter, or an adaptor (however you call it)

it converts 220v to 110v

now i assume i can plug SEVERAL machines to this convertor ?
this one is a 200 watt adaptor ..... how many compressors or other outboard gear can it supply with power ?

and there are tonns of cheaper 75 watt converters out there,
how many 19" units can i connect to that ?

--------
check this out, a pretty big transformer , you can hook 4 'machines' to it,
up to 2000 watt.... but is it safe to use such a thing in your bedroom ?
doesn't it make noize or electronic....shit... ?

any comments are appreciated !

On the back of most rack gear (next to the power cord) or in the manuals it will tell you the power consumption in watts.

On most gear there is a switch on the back to flip if from 110 to 220 operation... if it's not on the back it could be inside. Some also have the conversion on the IEC connector... you'll see something that looks like a window with the number of the incoming voltage... pop the cover off [carefully] and move the insert until the number for the voltage you're using shows up in that window and you're all set.

There is very little 110 / 220 specific gear made anymore... damn near all of it is switchable.

Best of luck with it.

yeah, true, i got a few pieces of equipment with that switch,
but not all...
and i read about those INTERNAL switches....but but but,
can i screw my equipment open myself ?
i did it with all my mixing descs cause they are all "old" analog machines...

but i donno about screwing open a MOTU 828 or a TECH 21 psa-1 ...
i'll just wait till those things arrive and check it from real close :)
