what are they and what do they use it for? Is it to get more higs?
I see them alot, specially live and in front of the trumpet.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you're refering to. Do you mean the clear plexi-glass screens? If so, that's a "gobo" used for sound isolation.

here's a picture

So yes, I think it's that. It prevents the sound of the trumpet to get into other mics? Does it have any tone shaping function?

If it's an omni mic than yes it would change the tone by adding more reflections. My guess is that since those mics are closer to the ground and any stage monitors that they are used more to prevent feedback.

I've only come accross it once.

A trumpet player brought along a clear perspex square about a foot square with a hole in the middle for a SM57 to fit tightly into about half way up the mic. He said it helped him hear better. The sound bounces back at you so it's like your own personal foldback.

Yep, it's for monitoring and leakage protection. I wish the trumpet in the concert band i'm in used those so she can hear how obsenely loud she is. My right ear rings after rehursal and she wont quiet down!.
