I was checking out some of Johns S. drawings and one said to use MDF for the sides. What is that exactly? It was the slanted absorber . It also showed that you use black cloth with slats over the cloth...but do you put anything behind the cloth. I'm thinking that it needs to be sealed. Please help...

MDF stands for medium density fiberboard. It's also commonly used for speaker cabs.

Medium density fiberboard

MDF stands for medium density fiberboard, and is basically sawdust mixed with glue and pressed to form large flat planks. It's often used for speaker cabs (like Mr. Brane mentioned), and furniture. It takes a veneer nicely since it's extremely flat, and is very heavy.

MDF is good for studio construction due to it's high mass (remember the mass rule!), but watch out for water/moisture, because if you get MDF wet it will disintegrate.

Cheers,

Kris

Can you buy it localy...In other words can it be found at your local hardware stores...ie Lowes and such

Any place that sells construction material such as boards, plywood etc. will have MDF. It's really nothing that special.
