What is eq 1Khz ?

I'm mixing a R&B/Neo-Soul vocalist who on some parts sings to loud at the 1khz frequency. When I turn down the 1khz freq on it makes a dramatic difference. Since I kinda stubbed on it by accident and was like wow this is what I've been looking for I just wondered what the 1khz freq was used for? I didn't see any eq frequency charts that mentioned it.

With alot of the vocals I've done, the 500hz-2khz range is the "fat" of the sound. You drop those frequencies, and it tends to make it less of a full sound. Seems with my vocals, it makes a pretty big difference when tailoring those frequencies.

Well...not sine waves...but pretty much everything else.

Sopranos can hit a 1kHz fundamental, but for a male vocalist, 1kHz is going to be around the second overtone (third harmonic), which can be a source of lots of character, be it good or bad. Male falsetto fundamentals can get up there too.

It can bring out/suppress a 'ringing' or sometimes 'buzzing' sound in a vocal.
