im confused as to what dithering actually does to audio. I record at 24/96.....and after the final mixing and mastering, ill export it to 16/44.1 and use dithering at that point for the final version of the song.

but what does dithering do? and what is the differnce between Powr-1, powr-2, and powr 3 dithering? I have these dithering options, but i dont know what the heck the differnce between them are, and what they do.

take a look over this "dither for dummies" article:
http://www.earlevel.com/Digital Audio/Dither.html

basically, dither is low level noise added to your audio which takes care of the audible distortion when converting from 24 bit audio to 16 bit audio. The different kinds (pow-r1, etc.) have different ways of approaching it.
There is a listening test somewhere on the net that compares all the different types of dither, but I can't find it.

--Edit--
Ah, here it is:

You use samplitude?I use pOW-R 3 myself(just bought samplitude pro v8.), but FYI, just in case..the dither on cracked versions introduces nasty noise artifacts..no kidding. the triangular spread dither is great too.

i use Sonar 4, and recently been using the pow-r #3. but i never really knew what the differnce was between the pow-r 1, 2, or 3.

You must choose........ correlated noise or uncorrelated noise. But in the end, Mr. noise will demand his due! :p
