My vocal processor has a setting to change the MIDI
"CC Number" of my DBX pro vocal processor. What is a CC Number???? How does it relate to me changing the fx of my vocal processor with a midi foot switch bank??????

CC stands for "Control Change".

MIDI can not only carry keystroke data from keyboards and such, but also data used to 'control' different parameters of your gear.

In this instance, you are using this footswitch controller to change parameters in your vocal fx box. In order to distinguish between the different messages that are being sent by various knobs/buttons etc, MIDI protocol assigns a number to each control (1-127 I believe).

You can assign these numbers as you like...the number is insignificant. What matters is that the CC# for each button on your foot controller is set to be the same CC# for whatever function you want it to perform on the vocal processor.

make sense?

partially makes sense..........

I think I understand what you're saying, however, there are two CC setting things in this DBX vox unit that are confusing me. I'll type out what they say below
In my DBX manual, it says ,

Chorus/Flanger - 1-10
This parameter is used to select the desired parameter to control with MIDI . Setting are as follows: 1: modeling microphone, 2: Mic pre amp gain, 3: compressor gain, 4-10 bla bla bla other mixes

but then the unittells me this other CC number thing in the manual 2 pages later

Utility function
The Pro Vocal provides a utility section which gives the user access to operation functions including: Sample-Rate selection, MIDI CC Selection and MIDI channel selection. The following info tells how to access and edit these features.
Change CC Number - Turn the power button on, while holding program up button. Now press the effect button and use mic type parameter knob to change the CC number. Once your selection has been made, press program up button to exit the utility menu.
When I go into this utility function, the parameter knob goes from 1-63 , which is half of 127...........the other CC setting goes from 1-10. I can't figure out how they are related and anything I try to do does'nt work. I have bothe the DBX unit and the foot controller on MIDI channel 4........what gives?????

CC#'s control all sorts of stuff so you will see them often. Most of the basic functions are on standardized numbers. For instance volume is CC 7 and Pan is CC 9. Your box may have some custom uses and it will have CC's assigned or assignable to most editing and performance functions.

I saw your other posts but I'll reply here since it's all related.

If you wanted to use a foot controller to control volume you would setup the pedal to transmit CC 7. If you wanted to use the pedal to control delay feedback you would look up the CC# for that in your manual and set the controller to send that CC#.

The basic way of using a foot controller with effects would be to send Program Change messages to the FX to change the overall patch. You can do that by pressing a patch up or down button to cycle through them or if you only use a few select patches and want random access you can program individual buttons on the controller to switch to a specific patch.
