well I was telling my wife there were all kinds of affordable things she could buy from MF for me while thumbing through the catalog. I happened to stop at the mandolins and said, "See, you could even get me a mandolin for $39.99." So what did I get, a Rogue mandolin for $39.99! Now I'll be hitting the internet looking how to play this thing. Anyone play these things and have any good websites to go to? Changing the strings was a slight pain in the butt!

I'm no help on sites but did want to say congrats on the new toy... :D

I wasn't exactly looking for one, but it's an instrument and has strings so I figure what the heck, it's worth a try. It will be interesting learning a new instrument and might help me with the guitar, who knows.

i got a mandolin last christmas, and yeah its pretty fun. i got a little chord book with it and that's all i needed. if you play guitar, then it's just getting used to the different tuning thats all i found.

Well the first thing you need to do is get in a boat with that mandolin and use it to paddle on down to the music store and get a Kentucky or Michael Kelly Mando.. LOL JK...

Couple of places on the web to get a little instruction...

Also.. Not sure what neck of the woods you're in, but check around your area Bluegrass Clubs... There's a GREAT one here in Memphis... http://www.memphis-bluegrass.org/ Prolly 250 members.. Seems like there's always a free workshop going on for something or the other.. Monthly *beginning* guitar lessons, weekly fiddle lessons... Generally done in very informal group settings, but ya can get the basics and go on from there...

Til ya get down the art of soloing breaks, just "chuck" the chords on 2 and 4 and you'll do fine..

BTW... That $39 mando is on page 57 of the latest MF Catalog for $29!!!

See if they'll price match your $10 back...

Crash, I just saw that also and figured I should ring them up because my wife also bought the gig bag separately. It does say prices are guaranteed for 45 days so who knows, it's worth a try.
