I have been using a spirit folio 10s for the phantom power equilization. From there i go into a fostex 160.
the mixer isn't mine and the fostex is on its last leg.
My question is... is there a fourtrack that has good eq and phantom power? and is it inexpensive?

If you want to do a little upgrade with little cash, check ebay for a Tascam multi-track portastudio.

Why don't you consider using your computer for recording purposes?

i do not have a computer

this one (that i'm using) is my girlfriends

is the tascam multitrack portastudio a digital unit?

I guess my question should be "is there a cassettete tape 4-track that uses phantom power?"

portastudio is analog, and has no phantom.

There are both analog and digital PortaStudios.... you're better off with digital - at least you won't have to deal with the limitations of cheap analog...

(Cheap digital also has limitations, but less obvious than cheap analog)

thanks for the thoughts everyone.
i looked at the tascam 424 which looked like a good deal with decent (?) preamps. i guess i'll have to get an outboard phantom power unit as well.
anyhow, till next time.

I would recommend you get an FMR Audio RNP as an outboard preamp.... one of the first cost-cutting measures used in PortaStudio-type gear is to cheap-out on the preamps......
