What file type do I use? Format?

Hi sound gurus! I am producing a CD to play on a radio show. They said make it so it plays on a CD player. I've only ever made sound to play on computers.
1. What file type do I save it as? .asf?.wav?.snd? or something else.
2. What format? PCM?
I'm using SoundForgeXP to save and Windows Media Player to write to CD. Is that OK? Any forseen probs?
 
Save the song files as .wav files, PCM, 16 bit/44.1. Most CD burning software should give you the option to burn as data (like for computers or MP3s) or as a Music CD. You want Music CD. Just drag your .wav files into that and go.
 
OK. That might explain why my wav file don't play on the CD and my son's wav file do play. He must have written them for Music CD while I saved my on my computer as a data file. Would that explain it?
Also, what does your signature line mean?
 
Yeah, CD's are actually a .cda extension, but most burning software will convert whatever files you want (as long as it's audio and not data) to this extension to burn to a CD. .wav files are the best option because they are the closest to .cda in quality. Most mp3 files are compressed and lose quality.
