If I was considering putting together a studio where a telephone line, cd player, microphone and a computer would be used to edit and create a show (audio only) for either broadcast or internet broadcast, what basic equipment would I need?

A mixing board?
 
yes a mixer - so you can bring your telephone line unit, CD player and mic into the computer via the line input. A good editing program and a good set of speakers to monitor it on.
 
For internet broadcast you would need - ofcourse - a computer with internet connection - as fast as possible! Then a server software for ex. RealServer (RealAudio form) or shoutcast server (for mp3 broadscast).

Then you just connect your audio source - LIVE or pre-recorded - from the mixer to your computer and put the software running. ...shortly described...
