I'm interested in just playing a keyboard into my computer and recording my voice with it. I have a keyboard and midi connections and have previously only used them for transcribing music and a little bit of sequencing. I have Cakewalk Home Studio 3.01 (no voice recording). I also have a CD Burner and would like to burn CD's with the final version. I know I will need to get a better microphone than I currently have. What else do I need?

I just bought a brand new computer with Windows 98, so it should be fairly up to date.

Thanks,

Howdy John,

Nothing that you want to do is impossible. The biggest thing that I would suggest is, Upgrade your CakeWalk program along with that mic that you spoke about.

Thanks. I just submitted my order for upgrade. Do you know if I can then write to CD with Home Studio 9? Do I need some other program?

Also, will I need some kind of amp or can I plug mic directly into the mic input on my computer?

You should not use the mic input on your computer with anything but a computer microphone...in other words, don't use it to record.

You need some sort of microphone preamp which you'll run to the line in port on your soundcard. ART makes a Tube Microphone Pre for $100.
