what else can i do?

Hi i was wondering if anyone had any opinions they could offer me on how i can improve my sound (vocal quality).

I already have a rode NK2 mic which is a top range mic.
and i also have a focusrite platinum voicemaster pro along with an esi waveterminal soundcard.

i have all the wave plugins amongst lots of others but hardware wise is there anything else i could add so improve my vocal sound, i want to achieve that clear, crisp, warm precise sound.

i'm fully aware this has alot to do which how you master the sound, and eq etc... and thats fine but hardware wise or outboard what else would help?

Adding more hardware will just take away from the signal, not add to it. What you have is fine. What you need is practice. Most of the quality sound will come from practicing the tracking than it ever will from trying to fix your tracks in mastering.

Beyond that, though - since I know you will not be happy with that answer - while there is nothing wrong with the NK2, everybody's voice is different and different mics respond to different voices differently. You might want to rent a couple of other mics just to see what works and what doesn't with your voice. You might wind up wanting a couple of mics, one for a ballad sound and one for an anthem sound.

Adding more hardware will just take away from the signal, not add to it.

As usual, what he said, sometimes a dynamic like a shure sm-57 fits the voice better than a zillion$$ neuman!!!

Also , you should'nt discount EQ quickly, Find out where the resonaces are needing to be attenuatted or boosted in you voice. You know, way back in the jurassic period , they had to use what they had, not shop till they dropped!( god , I sound like an old codger! ) No More Gear !! put in some time and tweak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could you not make your "top range mic" sound good with a focusrite platinum??

Yah def check into the EQ. Sweep until you find that frequency that brings that special quality out in the individuals voice and work with that frequency.
