Id like to know what effect u use on the vocals to get that whining sorta thing like at the beginning of meant to live by switchfoot : www.switchfoot.com
is it light distortion?

Sounds like a little delay, thin eq, and a pinch of chorus to me.

Doesn't sound like any special effects or anything to me. Just the basic vocal chain selection, EQ, and lots of compression kind of thing.
