what drums to buy?

i looking to buy a new kit, cause i don't like the tom mounts that go in the drum, and it would be best if it doesn't even go in the bass drum if possible i'm looking to sepnd under 800.00 any links or ideas would be greatly appricated.

Will be tough to find a kit with a virgin kick drum and floating mounts for under 800. Maybe you can piece one together through Ebay.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Tama Starcast mounting system. I'm sure other drum companies have equivalents, I'm just not up to date on the drum stuff lately.
 
I stand corrected (by myself). Seems like a lot of even the cheap kits (Pearl Export, PDP, etc) are coming with isolation mounts standard nowadays.

The virgin kick will still be hard to get imo though.

True.

I agree, though, that it would be good to piece things together from items found on ebay. I like Pearl Export Select toms with the ISS mounts. Pearl hardware is very nice, as is Mapex hardware. Lots of Gretsch bass drums, used or new, are available without mounting systems. For the snare, I would look for something that is unique, affordable, and has good reviews. Find a used lot of Sabian cymbals.

So all of that stuff, pieced together, will give you a complete kit. Be patient and wait for the best deals, and you can get all of that quite below $800. Be sure to get some nice heads and take extra time to tune them. Use the leftover money to invest in some cases for your drums, cymbals, and hardware.
 
Or alternatively, consider making the kit up yourself starting with bare Keller shells, etc.,.....drop in to http://www.ghostnote.net/vbforum/ where you will find bucket loads of info as well as both "hobbyist" and "pro" custom builders who can give you advice.

Greatch Catlina Birch, the tom mounts can be on bass or attached to a cymbal stand. They also do not penatrate the drum.
 
I have a Staclassic bass drum I might be willing to part with. What are you willing to pay? I bought the kit with double bass but I like playing a double pedal better. Brings everything in. Anyways... make an offer!

I wasn't able to get a pic of the extra bass I have tonight. But here is a pic of the mating one. If I remember correctly, there was something different about the tom mount on the other. I will definatley get there tomorrow and get a pic of the one. This will give you an idea of the color and such. Sorry it's dirty.
 
Look for a 2nd hand BRX kit of pearl or something..sweet tone, and sometimes available for around 800 on ebay..
