What drum heads and sticks to use?!

I'm getting ready to record a "real" drum track. I borrowed a nice Pearl Export series set and set it up nicely for what I intend to record (latin rock a la Soda Stereo, Santana...) I have a few nice cymbals that I borrowed as well. Anyways, here's my question, I need to go out and get some heads for the drums and some sticks to hit them with. Now, for recording purposes, what are the best drum heads I can go out and get?! And what's better for the drum sound, plastic tips or wooden tips on the drum sticks?! I know that this might be more of a "taste" issue, but want to hear some opinions from drummers... cuz I'm NOT a drummer, I'm a guitar player.

id say use 1 ply heads for recording.. they sometimes may not sound that great live ... and a bit ringy, but a good sound guy can get almost any sound of them.. emm.. yes.

May people prefer single ply drum heads for recording, examples are Evans G1 and Remo Ambassadors. On a Pearl Export kit I would personnally choose 2 ply heads (the Exports are not the warmest sounding kits, and 2 ply can help control some of the harsher overtones). Examples of 2 ply heads are Evans G2 and Remo Pinstripes. Aquarian also make very good heads, but they are slightly harder to find in stores. I would recommend coated heads, for the small amount of additional warmth they produce.

As a rule, heavier sticks can produce a fatter, louder tone, but technique and to a degree dynamics suffer (I must assume you are not concerned about any additional volumn a fatter stick can produce). For recording, a 5A or 5B may feel good to you. Plastic tips create a slightly more pronounced articulation on cymbals (in particular hi-hats and ride patterns) but there is very little difference in plastic and wood tips on drum heads.

Drum Stuff

I use the Evans Genera HD Dry for the Snare top and an Aquarian Classic Clear for the Bottom. I also prefer wood snare drums to steel snare drums. As far as toms go I for me its all about the pin stripes!!!

As far as sticks go thats really all about personal choice. I like wood tips one of my best friends like nylon tips. Look for something with good balance as well as easy to control. If your a light drummer dont try marching sticks if your a heavy drummer dont try jazz sticks...

currently im using remo pinstripe on all toms and kick and a coated pinstripe on the snare. aquarian makes a really nice kick skin. sticks- those half coated dip sticks, good for grip.
