Yep. And I believe it comes in 2 flavours- coaxial or optical.
 
And it's so you can move music from one digital device to another without going through the Analogue/Digital conversion process.

There are plenty of inexpensive coax/optical converters around.

Got a particular issue or just asking?
 
...and it's working just like ADAT optical interface...
