What does it mean when your monitor....

goes in and out. like...i was listening to a song...and i heard the left side get quieter...

i loaded up a different song...i listened to the bass..and it sounded perfect...the cymbals came in...sounds clear...


and then...it went out a little bit again.


is this a short? can it be fixed easily?

there's no distortion when it sounds good. so it couldn't be blown, or torn...
 
question:

i usually don't have a lamp plugged in and on. right now from one socket i have a computer, a mackie400f, a computer monitor, and the active monitor plugged in. (and the lamp)

the other monitor has nothing else plugged in the same socket.

could the amount of electricity being used temporarily make my speaker go out?


i had an amp that did this to me a while back...and i thought i had broken it. turns out it was just a wire that would knock loose.

i looked inside at each speaker...and it seemed okay. should i try to just make sure the wires are in there good enough?

assuming your monitor is actually a real studio monitor and not some computer speakers. If that is the case, they do put out a lot of sound, even in the basses... that being said they can jiggle wires loose if there not properly secured.
 
i put all it all back together, and i've been listening to music for the last...8 minutes...all is well...strange??


i had been listening to music with a lot more bass in it....

Wires/cables can die at any moment. You might be shutting off your gear, step on a wire, tug at the connects, especially if it is a frugal wire, and, ZAP--it's shot or shorted.

Solder joints can crack or erode and it doesn't take much to make a connection sound like a misdirection or an infection of sound loss.

As long as you're running clear now, why look for more problems?

just in case it happens again and it's not a short.
 
Sounds like the monitor cable problem I had recently. I had the fade-ins/-outs and lower volume at times. All that disappeared simply with a new cable.
