What does ‘bus’ mean? And, some other mixer questions:

I have been thinking of buying a new mixer. My problem is that I don’t really understand them at all!

I have been recording with one ADAT and a Behringer 1604a. I use the main stereo outs to record (and monitoring on ALT 3-4), but I am sick of creating stereo mixdowns each time I record… so to speak. I can only record 2 tracks at once with my mixer. It would be nice to record on each separate track; maybe even all at once. I would be pleased with recording on 4 tracks at once, but 8 would be even better. I was reading some technical notes on a Allen Heath mixer that was $1,000: it said each channel has an individual out. That’s the kind of thing I want.

So, how do I find a mixer that will do this? And, how much do they cost? 4 mono tracks if fine with me (more if possible), just need 4 stereo pairs to return. I’d like to buy a Soundcraft if possible; or something around $300-700 and not Behringer.

Oh, yeah. What does ‘bus’ mean in audio?

Soundcraft M8 or M12, Mackie 1402 or 1604 will do the job.

MemoGtr,

Thanks for that link, it really helped me out.

I think I'm going to go for the Soundcraft M8; it seems to have everything I need.

Thanks everyone.
