God, I hate it when people start new threads on the same damned song.

You self-absorbed weenie gobbler.

DUDE, WTF HAPPENED TO MY TOTALLY COOL SCREAM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SONG? Do you think I recorded that for my HEALTH?!?!?! Why, just yesterday I was telling you how much I LOVED that being at the beginni...oh wait, nevermind.

But while I'm here. Cool, man. You know, not to polish your knob or anything, but that really is a great guitar tone... You dropped down the levels of the screams PERFECTLY in the tune. That's a nice verb on my vocal...I didn't really hear it on the first version if it was there...what IS that verb?I can hear more of your vocal stuff on here, and it's great...my vox are probably mixed a little hot for the genre (you know, "nu-hillbilly-metal-pop doors down," b/c all of my favorite nu-hillbilly-metal-pop doors down tunes have the thing with the... (Jesus, can I NOT be a smartass for like 3 seconds?

Okay, a touch of seriousness here. Thanks for doing this with/for me. If nothing else, you've got some pretty universal lyrics that you can sing some day, since you're too lazy to write words down on paper...I mean, they're mostly done, right?

Okay, for the overall mix...and this is something I noticed on the original file, you really might consider running it through a low cut filter at some point....I think I know why some people aren't getting a ton of low end...all the energy's really TOO low to be heard on a lot of systems. I can see the bottom just about pegged to the ceiling, but it's not doing that head surrounding warmness thing. I think if you cut some of the subsonics, it'll free up some headroom, so you might actually HEAR more bass. I'd run a high cut too...there's really no human use for much (if anything) over 16K, and I've noticed that 9 out of 10 commercial CD's I look at drop off really sharply below a peak at 63Hz, and like a freaking cliff @ 16K...seriously, like how mp3's cut off above about 16K...I always thought it was a compression thing...but 16bit commercial audio does the same thing...which accounts for a lot of the reason (I think) that commercial mixes sound pretty decent no matter WHAT you're listening on...I think producers shoot for the middle of the road -- no high highs, no low lows, and TONS OF MID-energy. (I don't listen to a lot of hip hop, lol). My monitors don't even play shit below 20Hz, but I can see there's some serious low end in this that I'm not getting the brain melting benefit from.

Oh, and most importantly, everything I just wrote is a total guess, except for the stuff about commercial mixing that Crawdad taught me, lol.

Dude, my next "goal in record" (right after "quit doing it all wrong") is to get the following guitar tone...sounds like a strat or a tele, through some kind of a Fender amp, with a ridiulous tremolo on it....THAT IS MY SIGNATURE SOUND...can you record something that sounds like the following without throwing up violently?

"Git Tone I Like - But Will Never Make"
www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles

(No joke on that, btw...I'm just rambling, and I love THAT tone...I'm sure everybody would hate it, lol. IT'S MY NEW AUTOTUNE...now please, tell me you can get that sound...on tap. :D

Oooh a challenge eh? I'm game. Of course the guitar itself is the biggest peice of the puzzle. I stroke mine gently to keep her happy. Then she likes it when I slap her around. Good call on the EQ. I have a thing for LOWS and I could never figure out why people would be like, "I can't hear the kick or bass." when it was just slammin on any of my systems, barring the monitors. It was the low lows playin tricks on me, plus I played all the notes so I know they are there. I'll try to fix some of that, but I won't clog up the forum anymore with my drivel. Thanks C-doggy- diggity-doo. (that's your new rap name)

I hope you have a better understanding now why some of my threads have 50 replies within one day...as you can see, no less than 40 of them are from me. I could be all cool and wait for a few replies to build up before I reply, but I'm SOOOOOoooo not cool, lol. I'm all about talking about me, hehehee..

Thanks again, man,
Chris

a bit over smiley eq wise. nice guitar! vocals a tad hot. i really like the backups though.

this song moves very well. good songwriting, i like that chorus.

nice screaming chris! this is what you really want to do isn't it?

ouch, a little over autotuned at 2:52.

i really like that backwards scream in the end.

I love the guitar sound on this.
Great playing!

Chris's vocals totally rock.
Autotune man,it's the only way to fly!:D

Cudos to SluiCe for the writing.
Great tune man!

Pete

Actually Sluice's version was totally different (but also quite good). Chris wrote the lyrics for this one. They are both dickheads.

Dude, what the hell are you talking about? You're really starting to piss me off. There's no backwards scream?! :D :D

In all seriousness, there's no autotuning at all @ 2:52, but that's the exact same spot that Jamal "heard" it. It's my voice, and a little something called control; people here just hear "autotuning" a lot in my tunes these days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's none in this tune, but the fact that people keep pointing it out in the wrong places tells me that perhaps it's not as obnoxiously offensive as some would have me believe. DON'T BUY THE HYPE!! ...Mark should jump right into the middle of the controversy and vindicate me...b/c I'm not supposed to care

Whew...that felt something. Hey erichenryus and Pete...very nice and cool of you guys to listen...erichenryus is about to have to go on retainer for me if he listens to another tune.

Well, I have had the honor of hearing his vocal tracks straight up and I'll tell you this. Chris has used so much autotune for so long that he now imitates the damn thing without realizing it. No, actually, the lead track doesn't have nearly the amount of autotune people think it does. The man CAN actually sing damn well, as everyone here obviously already knows, all kidding aside. Of course, the background vocals have so much antares I think he blew his rig to bits processing it. Oh well, nobody will know the difference if he doesn't use it. ;) For my part, I feel lucky to have had two of the most talented people on the boards (SluiCe and chrisharris) work with little ol me on my little ol tune. I'm grateful to all those who helped with the mixes and everything else. I've learned more about music in the last six months than in the last six years I think. Now the bad news is, I have to go. This will be my last post on the BBS . I'm not at liberty to say where or why, but I'm outy like my man Larry Gouty. PEACE

Okay, I guess this is petty of me, but I've had all I can stand, and I can't stands no more.

"AUTOTUNE VINDICATION"
www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles

(it's the dry clip of that verse...Jamal told me to hang on to it, lmao)

Who knows...it might be the ONLY :17 seconds in the whole tune where there's no Autotune, ... maybe?

Oh like my post wasn't petty enough BEFORE I READ yours...lmao.

Dude, you were a true champ on this one...I was kidding about defending me, but I have a feeling you know that already, lol.

All I can say is, your reason for leaving better have something to do with eminent fame.

Seriously, best of luck to you...get back quick...nobody else will let me rock, lol.

I just wanted you to think you were loved...

We can con each other like this all night, lol.

I guess that makes three of us!:D

Chris,if there ever was a guy didn't need autotune man, your him!
Now me,I'm waiting for the superdeluxe nuclear version to come out!

BTW-I like the backwards scream,I say leave it in!:D

jesus autotune christ! sorry i let the a word slip. it just sounded weird in that spot to me. that's all.

i'm not going to listen to the solo vocal track. gotta go to bed now. anyway, only thing i thought really could use some fixing was the overall eq of the thing.

Oh hell yes you ARE gonna' listen, lmao.

Man, I can tell I rubbed you the wrong way with that; that's just b/c I'm a dickhead. It's my "thing." No, really, I don't mind pissing some people off, but I really would have trouble sleeping if you were one of them.

It's not like I haven't taken my Antares beatings like a man, right? :D

Besides, it was all a well crafted Antares trap that I set months ago...lol; you're SUPPOSED to think it's autotuned there :D Duck and cover, bait and switch...always keep 'em guessing. It's not like you mistook a keyboard for a guitar or something (yes, ... umm 3 times I've stepped in that one at last count, and I quit counting).

Let's make up :D

I thought the song was really good. The smiley face thing is very pronounced but that can be fixed I guess.

The song is good but five stars? The mix is holding it back. I can't tell from here if it's a mastering thing or a mixing thing, I'm not htat experienced.

I know it's a lot to ask, but if you mastered this could you post an unmastered version? Or if not could you post a zereod mix, or rather un-mixed beyond levels? No effects or dynamic edits. That would be a good experiment for my listening and may help get this song out of home stereo eq land.

I dig this song a bit so far.

My chick just wants to hear Chris and Jamal though.

And thanks again, Pete. :D

Pete was the first person ever to ask me how I recorded an acoustic... It made me feel great. I'm all full of niceness and stuff, b/c I recognize some people in the clinic for a change, lol.

I'm still waiting for that second query from someone else about how I record my acoustics, btw. :D
