What do you use for your sample sources? CDs or something else?

Veering a little off topic, but not really. Does anyone know where I can get some good horn samples? The ones I have on my EXS24 in Logic aren't very good, and obviously the garageband ones aren't good. All the machines I have (MC303 Groovebox, crappy casio keyboards, etc..) aren't cutting it. I was trying to sample some stuff from Miles Davis, but I can't seem to get them to do what I want. Are there any good horn samples out there? I especially would love to get a decent trombone sound, and good french horn and oboe sounds.

Exactly, J. Dee was honestly the best producer - he could take samples and make them sound like you never heard them before. All of his tracks brought emotion like no-one else could (like using the human voice as an instrument in Stand To The Side.) Til he died, he had his production equipment. He had a turntable and sampler in the hospital and he'd showcase his beats to the doctor. Now THAT's love for hip-hop.

Even before I started producing, I loved his music and I knew that if I ever began producing, I'd make my style based on his. The day he died, I listened to my Dilla tracks again and after hearing Where Do We Go and [/I]It's Your World, I knew I had to seize that dream and actually start making beats.

I made my first beat about a week ago and while it wasn't very good - someday, God willing, my work will be good enough to honor his memory properly.

stay away from bigfishaudio

bigfishaudio sample cd's are basically loop cds
and you cant really do much with them because they already have reverb
bpm and effects applied to them and you have to basically end up making the same beat it was sampled from almost.
Construction kits are premade beats or loops
broken down into loops for each instrument
they don't give you one shots of the good sounds
you only get maube 15 hits (single shots)
where as maybe only 2 of them may be useful

its better to get a softsynth or sampler or keyboard that samples
and use those sounds or sample your own sounds
also have you ever tried sampling your own songs that you made
you'd be surpised at the original instruments you can make from those

but from my experience most sample cd's only really have mostly drums
and only a few of those drums are good.

I samle sounds out of proteus, mo'phatt, regular keyboards, whatever
and eq and master that sound(remove all hiss and unneeded space)
and save it as a wave file and load it in my soundbank which
can then be played all across the keys
I have emulator x sampler for multisamples.
