Hey guys,
I have a home studio currently with a Sblive.
NOW, i cant go two ways. i can go all out and get a sound card that has like 8 ins and outs (which is more expensive) or get a 24 bit card (audigy) and a Mackie 1404 vlz pro. What is more favourable? and besides tracking drums what are the benefits of haveing 8 ins and outs?

thanks

get anything else but don't get a audigy, they don't sound good at all. just samve your money and get something like the Staudio C-port.

The advantage of 8 ins and 8 outs is the ability to record more than one track simutaneously... if you are the only musician, then you really wouldn't need more than one track at a time, because you can layer the work.

So, with that said, there are better cards specifically for recording than the Creative stuff (which is more geared for consumer audio, mostly playback). Take a look at http://www.midiman.com, for lots of different products and/or http://www.echoaudio.com/mia.htm for a pretty good sound card from Echo.

You can probably find a nice 2in2out card for less than the platinum audigy.

I've tried to go the route of having a mixer infront of my line in, on a SBLive, attempting to mix the tracks before laying them down in the software -- it's a nightmare... having the ability to record raw tracks, then mix them when they are all recorded is invaluable.

And, if you don't get a sound card that has mic pre-amps, you'll want to still get your mackie, both for using the mic pre's into your computer, and for grouping, and possibly mixdown.

how many inputs do you need and how much do you want to spend on the soundcard and mixer combined?...with the Mackie and Audigy, you will only be able to record 1 stereo track at a time, so all that mixer will somewhat go to waste....

Read the fine print on the Creative website!!!!!

Audigy's are 24bit PLAYBACK ONLY - not 24bit recording. It still only records in 16bit.

Its not even worth your time to consider it.
