Its more of an idea at this point than a song, but tell me what you think:

I dont have a bass, so... there isnt any bass lol. I plan on buying one/borrowing one eventually.

Overall its pretty sloppy, but tell me what you think of the idea/ sound quality etc

Thanks!

There's a good song in there somewhere, but it does seem sloppy like you said, like the drums and guitars are out of time sometimes.

I like the guitar playing and the tone.

This sounds like something I could pretty easily write lyrics to and sing to.

Ok !

Can you fix the timing first ?

Also... curious, are those sampled drums, and if so, which program ?

(And if not - wow, sorry I asked, I'm stupid)

ya, ill work on it some more and Ill send you a pm when Im finished (may be a few days, I plan on re recording it all, and adding some more guitar, im kinda going for almost a shoegazey meets indie rock style)

And the drums arent sampled.

Okay I can hear it now. It's kinda hard to comment on. Sounds like any other radio song - but unfinished and sloppy. Arrangement is pretty good though. Keep working with it.

Im mainly looking for comments on the quality (drum and guitar sounds, panning, that type of stuff), not so much the song itself.

Sounds good.

I've done online work with people before, and it's come out good.

Somebody supplies the ground work, I'll throw my 2 cents on top.

What bands do you like?

I'm a lo-fi indie kind of guy..... guided by voices, neutral milk hotel, pavement, sonic youth..... etc.

I love NMH.

Pavement are cool, so is what ive listened to of Sonic Youth.

I like other indie type stuff like Heatmiser, Dinosaur Jr., Melvins

And for some reason, My Bloody Valentine was an influence in this, even though Ive barely listened to them. So I think Ill add some more guitar tracks with some reverb and chorus, thicken it up.

Im surprised with the drum sound I got. Im using an Audio Technica 2020 and an Mxl 990 (I think, the LDC one) as overheads in the recorderman method, and some kind of cheap cad ldc for a kick mic, and a reallllly cheap On Stage Stands or something dynamic mic on snare...

Damn, I feel stupid for asking you if it was sampled, although I guess it could be a compliment - because samples are usually well recorded.

I also own the AT2020, and find it very useful on many things.

Last session, we recorded a bunch of beer bottles getting smashed up - because I knew that mic was tough, and could risk it near flying glass. It's my goto mic for really loud sources, and potentially damagin situations.

Anyway - our influences match up real well - so If I come back with some pretty "out there" indie / prog style lyrics and vocals, I take it you would be cool with that.

Sloppy as... but that's OK - the distorted sounds are really bad - the arrangement might make more sense if you had a better sound.

What would you reccomend for a better distorted sound? This is only maybe my 5th time ever trying to record electric guitar, so I have no experience.

Oh, in that case, I'm not really digging it. Just personal taste. I'm a punk/hard rock kind of guy. To me, the guitar sounds okay, but I'm not into the whole weird indie guitar-noise thing. The drums sound kind of flat and lifeless. They're loud enough, but kind of dull. Kick has no attack. Snare tone sounds good for the genre, but needs some air to it in the mix. Toms and cymbals/hats sound real good.
