I didn't record this, but its a band who is a friend of mine. They have a home studio in their house. I am also in a band, and they have been bugging us to record with them. They said they would charge us 50.00 a song. Now, I am into recording as well, but I've heard they have some good stuff. I had been looking into buying Pro tools, and the DIGI 001, and some decent mics and preamps. So we could just do it ourselves, and have the advantage of having unlimited time to spend on it. The guy that recorded this is the bassist for there band, and they have been on tour for a month so we would have to schedule it around them. Everyone else in our band raves at the sound they have, but there something about those recordings I don't like. I think I could get just as good of a sound on my own and save the 50 a song for some gear so we can do unlimited demos. Can you guys listen to it and give me your thoughts. By the way these tracks were mastered by the guitarist for well known screamo band "From First To Last" who are signed to epitaph records. He went to fullsail in Orlando. If we were to record with them, the bassist who owns the gear would actually be the one mixing and such. The band recorded with them before, and the results weren't that great to me.. but I will post both links and you can all give me your expert opinion!

Purevolume is only streaming right now, and the streams are pretty bad quality.

With that qualifier, these tracks sound like they were well recorded and mixed. $50 a song for that is a pretty good deal.

You don't mention how much experience or gear you have, but it could take a year or more to get your recording skills up to par.

well..

I used to be fairly proficient with digital multitrack recorders.. the ones that are all-in-ones, like akai dps12 and such. I know all the tricks and techniques of mic placement and have recorded alot of acoustic stuff. I've also recorded in several professional level studios in previous bands who had top of the line stuff, and was learning things those times as well. While I don't have anything other than my PC, and my fostex monitors now, since I sold everything I pretty much own trying to stay in a national touring band and still pay the bills (which winded up not working).

I am planning on purchasing the DIGI 001 interface/card that comes with Pro Tools. I also intend to buy some preamps, and some mics.. I already know what I am gonna get in those cases. I'm not really a newbie to recording. I'm just trying to see if its worth it in the long run.. to just go with the DIY approach.
