I'm thinking about buying a Studio Projects C1. Have any of you guys have any expierence with this mic or any vocal clips. For vocals

....I know a very prominent voiceover artist, who has a mic locker full of Royer and RCA ribbon mics, Neumanns, Gefells, etc.....and he uses the SP C-1 on his auditions quite regularly.....
Folks here either love it or hate it.....my actor friend calls it not only the best buy for the bucks, but also literally puts his money where his mouth is...which is not to say that there's no reason to have Gefells, etc...

They're pretty decent, brighter-sounding mics. Matches well with certain voices. Not the best instrument mic, but I've heard worse. Good for the money, but there are better "bargains" out there if you look.
Overall, I think a CAD 177 or 179 will cover much of the same ground, but will tend to sound better for around the same price or less. Just one guy's opinion, mind you.

For a little more money you can get an AT4040. Very warm sounding, focused low end and a smooth top end. A real winner.mtown408 said:

I own one. I use it for my own vocals (old, low, scratchy, male voice) and for vocals of one other of my band members (alto, female).

the high end is terrible, absolutely terrible. I use it when I run out of other mics. If you use it on 1 maybe 2 tracks it's usable, if you use it on several tracks the end result gets really bad. I'd get a better mic if I were you

I have a lower voice and like the C-1 so much that I bought the T-3, its tube counterpart. Studio Projects products to me are a nice bargain in today's home studio. Some will love and some will bash, but to me the $$$ we spent to create the best results in our home studios are well spent with Studio Projects products. I think you will like your selection.
I must confess that I considered selling my C-1, T-3 with upgraded NOS Tube, and new Shure SM7B, to purchase a Peluso 2246LE. However, when I looked at my financial picture, I came to my senses and am staying put for now.
I'm sure you will enjoy your new mic!

I have a CAD M177 and prefer it over the C1. This CAD has been very useful for me for a variety of things.

The C3 is a lot more usable on more stuff, The C1 works great on some voices, really great~! ON some very shrill. Not a good choice as your only mic but a good mic in your cab.

He posted last month that he was thinking about replacing it, so I PM'd him, expressing interest in his old C1. I never heard back from him, so I bought a new one from Ebay for $200. A few days later I saw this ad. Yeah, I 'm a bit bitter....
Nah, I'll survive.
Anyway, I got mine recently, and so far I like it on some quick scratch track vocals I've done, but I haven't really gotten to know it real well yet. It definitely has a very bright top end. Some love it, some hate it. So far I like it quite a bit, but I wouldn't say I love it. yet.

I've had mine for several years. It's very nice on voices which can use some sizzle. I wouldn't use it for a female or bright male voice.
