It's now been out for a while. How many of us have tried SP2? Did it cause problems with cakewalk software?
I don't have the luxury of a dedicated DAW so this matters to me.

Haven't connected my DAW to the Internet to get SP2, so I would like to know too if I am better off without it. Also, if do get SP2 will XP keep all my tweaks (www.musicxp.net) ?

i had SP2 on my new computer for a while and didn't like it. I felt my computer was secure enough to not have it so it took it off. It keeps hounding me about antivirus software which i can't afford and i'm pretty sure it altered my internet settings cause certain pages don't load when it was on my computer.

I already use SP3... no need SP2...

ps. SP3 = Sonar Producer 3 :D

Personally, Nope.. won't install it.

From what I've read and seen it's more hassel than it's worth. If you have a decent firewall on your PC (and yes there are free ones available) and you don't install $hit off the web (aka spyware) I don't see a need to install it.

One PC at home it was installed on, it crashed the print spooler, if you don't know what a firewall is and you are worried about your safety on line.. that's probably when you would need to install it.

Of course, all of this post is personal opinion.

I've been running it and XP Pro for awhile now with no problems yet.

Had it, don't use it anymore...too many bugs. Maybe I'll try SP3 :)

antivirus software

Try avasti from avasti.com - it's free for non-commercial use, and it gets rid of that nag screen.

That said, I'm using SP2 with no problems (yet).

I chose to reformat the hard drive on my DAW recently, so in the process I elected to install SP2. Obviously there are some advantages to this, as Windows and SP2 were installed before any other software was installed.

I did turn off DEP for Sonar as recommended on the Sonar forum, and have had no problems w/SP2 or Sonar whatsoever. In fact, the system seems run a bit more stable (but this could quite possibly be due to other changes I made when I did the format and reinstall).

BTW, the nag screen can be turned off. It defaults to on, but you can set it to disable the reminders.

Maybe I will give it a try. I understand it can be uninstalled if I have problems. I don't want to not be able to get any future patches or upgrades.

Anyone have trouble UNinstalling it?
