Drum census;
Just curious to see who owns and uses what type of drums, computer drums, electronic or whatever.

Ludwig, Yamaha, Tama, Mapex, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Remo...

Lately I've been using Reason for the electronic stuff.

I have a shitty little CB set worth about $5 with shitty sabian b8 cymbals but 2 delightful zildjian cymbals (china and zil-bel). Since my recording space isn't amazing and for the ease of recording I got a Roland td10 module and 5 triggers.

Rogers kit, 1972. Not sure what model.

Sounds good.

Electronics - Roland V-Drums (TD10). Alesis D4

Accoustics - Premier Genista (Birch), Mapex Saturn Pro Limited (Maple), Maple Voyager (Mahogany)

Snares - Pearl 6x14 Maple, Pearl 13x3 Maple, Pearl 13x3 Steel, Mapex 5.5x14 Birch, Tama 5.5x14 Steel,

Cymbals - Sabian Hand Hammered (Thin), Wuhan China

Percussion, Toca Concas, Toca Bongos, lots of hand percussion from LP, Toca & Rhythm Tech

I use Taye StudioMaple drums/evans heads/zildjian a custom cymbals.

DMR 7 piece Custom Maple set w/ 18x22 kick, Mid 80's Dark Mahogany 4 piece Premier set, 5 1/2x14 DW Pacific Maple snare, Sabian AA & AAX stage and studio cymbals, Misc Remo/LP percussion items (Jam Blocks, Roto Toms, Cowbells), Tama Rhythmwatch 105 Metronome

Traded my Hart Professional 6.4 w/ TD10 and TD8 brains for the DMR set... Miss the ease of recording but on stage, there's no comparison :)

Recording setup:

Two Fostex VF16's with upgraded 40 gig drives connected via ADAT
ART Pro MPA Tube Pre
B-word ADA 8000 Preamp (8 individual preamps with ADAT lightpipe out so I can record 16 simultaneus channels on one VF 16)
Nady Pra8 8 channel pre (gives extra XLR's and phantom power)
Yamaha MG10/2
AKG D112 for kick
Three SM 58's for close tom
SM 57 for snare/hats
SM 87 for snare/hats
Two AT3035's for Overheads
B-Word Composer 2100 Compressor
DBX 163x Comp/Limiter

Still figuring out the best way to use it all...

;)

Custom DW maple shells with Pearl hardware and rims (can't stand those klunky DW lugs, all that talk about resonance and they screw 23 pounds of metal on the drum!)
DW/Remo heads
Tama mounts and stands
Rogers eagle badge (50's) maple snare
Pearl metal snare
K Zildjian, Istanbul, A Zildjian, Wuhan cymbals

SM81's, SM57/8's, MK012's, modded MK219's, Rode NT1's, RE16's, 635a's - in various combinations
Behringer 2642 mixer (so shoot me)
Mac G3 with various software and 200G
Korg 1212 (stuck in 16 bit)
Fostex VC8 20 bit AD/DA to light pipe
Various comps/limiters, reverbs, etc.

NOOOOOOOOOOO shit!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Although I still don't know why Pearl thinks its OK to have a pipe sticking into the shell! There's a resonance killer!!

Dumb idea!

Pearl seems to have gotten all their designs from 70's Rogers. Guess they never learned the lesson of the BIG R - stick a pipe in the drum and it sounds like _____________ (fill in the blank)

'82 Tama ImperialStar(ugly as sin but sounds incredible). Zildjian medium thin crashes, New Beat hats, and Sabian HHX powerride. Remo, Aquarian, Evans heads, all Tama hardware. DW7000 double kick pedal.

I also use a Cheapo CB700 Kit with some Cheapo Sabian B8/Solar Cymbals and a set of DW Double Kick Pedals...The kit actually sounds pretty good for the Type of Music I play....

I have it Miced up with 8 Mics going into a Mixer and out into my delta 44 recorded in stereo with "Mackie Traction 2.1" and it works quite good....

Cheers

At least they did away with the long double-ended lugs (O.K. for High-Tension marching snares but need on any other drum why?!?!?). And now Tama is releasing the same thing on their new Superstars!!!

Nice kit. The Paiste 2002 16" Crash is one of the best damn crashes I have ever heard. The 17" and 18" are obviously great too. I hope you burned the Ion when you got the Yamaha. :D
