I was at daddys junky music today and so one for $140. I wasn't really thinking much about and when i hung out with my guitarist i mentioned i saw a marshall for 140 he instantly called and put it on hold for tomorrow. Wondering what you know about it?

Is it a steal at $140

good tone?

good distortion?

he plays alot of punk hardcore so its a light distortion that is needed but with a good tone

thanks in advance

The control pannel is identical to the layout of a valvestate 80 watter I used to have, and an 80 watt SS Marshall a friend of mine used to have(of the same series I think). I upgraded to a blues deluxe and he to a jcm2000. Neither of us ever seriously used the drive channels of pretty much any of the amps instead relying on an assortment of pedals. I recall the valvestate could get into high gain territory and sounded only marginally better than my friends total SS model.

It's a foot switching amp, the drive channel can go all the way to 'square wave'. It's not a rare find or anything but it won't hurt him to go try it out and see if he likes it, and a backup amp never hurt anyone if you were going gigging.
