hey, i signed up here a long time ago but rarely posted.
im 17 and am going to be a freshman at columbia college this year,
majoring in audio production.

that being said, check out these songs i did for my friends' band recently:
myspace.com/alldayeveryday

i did People Must Fail and This Is Emo,
unfortunately i do not have the right rig to do multitracking for drums,
so the drums are sampled. i'm saving up for some new studio gear for that though.
all in all, let me know what you think about the mixes and go ahead and give me constructive criticism!!

thanks guys

The composition: It need more unity. Every tonal instrument is doing its own thing...all the time. The bass tone is not cabable of planting the tonality of the progression because it has a hollow tone...and false cues are given off by the droning guitars. I can't always tell what the chord is. And it's real busy.

The recording: the delay FX would be a lot more effective used about 5% of the time that it's used. Along with the ambiguity of the chords...made more difficult by extra beats in some measures....the constant delay adds to the chaos.

The mix does not have the instruments working together. The snare...and the flam on every hit...with no bass drum to punctuate the bass guitar, for example. Chaos is good...in smaller doses.

My suggestion: listen to Green Day. Listen to how the compositions are full of parts played together , and listen to the mixes and sounds. Reference.

There's a reason they got Grammies. A savvy producer who whipped their music into a power machine, and good mixes. Simplify, simplify, simplify.

I like the vox .....w/o the delay would be swingin'..

I don't really see anything wrong with the mix in any of the two songs. I really like the songs. It sounds a lot like Simple Plan to me. Even down to the small double echo on the voice which is VERY cool. That's good thing by the way. I really like them. I don't really feel like I am missing anything with the samples drums. I almost forgot they were sampled. I think you are on the right track here. Good job!
