Proper technique

is that your thumb should be pressed against the back of the center of the neck and your hand should form a cup underneath. This helps maintain stability and precision. Peter

We are all guilty of breaking the rule. I just try to remember to do it especially when folks ask. It really does help but we all know we are bad...

I'm a dumbass.....I don't play regular barre chords....I've tried....lord knows I've tried.......I have to use my thumb for the 6th string because it just feels better to me......maybe I'm subconsciously masturbating with my left hand...I dunno......

I guess I move it outta the way when I attempt scales...but I wouldn't make a pimple on a lead guitarist's ass, either.......

I'm just a kinda chunka chunka keep the beat type.....or maybe wanka wanka......but my thumb never hurts.......gibs

LoL, thanks for the reply's! EVen the ass one's, they've cheered me up.

Oh well i guess i'm opne of those 1 in a million kinda guys. Except instead of being able to provide myself with oral sex, i get ahces in my thumb when playing the guitar.

Btw, when i play power chords, my thumb does act as a sort of clamp, it sits in the centre of the neck as basil stated is the correct position, and it's this i think that gives me the aches.

Oh well, it aint gonna stop me playing :D
