What do you consider top of the line plugins??

Hi there,

I am curious as too what y'all consider to be top of the line plug-ins. I purchased a fair amount of waves' plug-ins but I have a bit more to spend. So what would you guys consider some top of the line plug-ins. I am currently using nuendo 2.1 on a pc.. I have scouted out some TC elec. stuff and am curious about that but it seems like a very deep pool when it comes to finding the creme of the crop of plug-ins. thanks

antares auto tune is helpful. so is antares mic modeller, makes mics sound just like expensive ones.

Timeworks 4080L is probably the best native reverb out there.


Timeworks ReverbX is supposed to be even better but it's so CPU-hungry you can't run in real-time on even the most powerful CPU's.
 
TC reverb sounds good to me. It is easier on CPU than Waves, so you can run more reverbs at once.
Recent discovery is Voxengo stuff: Soniformer (compressor) and Elephant (limiter) are surprisingly good.

-Sonic Timeworks (me not usually, but others prefer their limiter to the L2, and on their ReverbX you're limited to the usual thin plate verbs on a slower machine)
-I didn't care for the TC native stuff (the saturation feature was kinda cool, in a way, for a while)
-Digitalfishphones' plugs are cool, and free!
 
Yes, Sonictimeworks is great. Not necessarily the limiter, but CompressorX and the 4080L. ReverbX is also great, but not really usable in a multitrack mix.
 
the uad-1 dsp card and powercore. the fact that they run on their own dsp chip allowed the creators not to skimp, cause they didnt have to worry about cpu headroom. the uad-1 has plugins like the la2a, 1176, dreamverb, pultec eq, cambridge eq, nigel guitar modeler (killer by the way, etc. i have not messed with the powercore at all, but i have seen a demo. both are very powerful pluggin systems.
 
Yeah I found that dsp card very interesting. That may be the way I go...Or I may just stick with what I got for now and spend elsewhere. I was curious to see what people thought was the top of the plug-ins..
 
i could never get this card to work with anything other than ASIO drivers. which is the best option anyway, but for me, it meant spending an additional $150 to upgrade my sony vegas software. just something to consider.
 
I've heard quite a few plugins including Waves and many others but I've yet to hear a plugin reverb that compares to my buddies Lexicon MPX500. And that's not Lexicons high end unit. Maybe it's just me but the quality outboard gear just sounds better to me. Currently I'm using plugs but I've got to get me an MPX500 or something similar. Also, outboard EQ sounds way better to me. My money is going rack gear from here on out.

The Waves plugs are nice for plugins from what I've heard.
 
I'll vouch for the UAD-1. I got one recently to run with Cubase, and now for EQs I almost exclusively use the UAD channel strips. The 1176 and LA2A are really good too, but as for reverbs, I still prefer the KDFX reverbs in my Kurzweil but like to use them from time to time as they sound different and sometimes fit for a part.

Therage, I am thinking of getting an MPX500 myself just to have another color in my reverbs pallette, and I like the Lexicon sound.
 
guys, if you want the lexi reverb sound, go download SIR (free impulse plugin) and go to noisevault.com and download the lexi impulses there... apparently the well-recorded ones can theoretically sound identical to the actual hardware unit.

and it's all free.

The newer ones have a compressor too but I haven't heard it. Nice units.
 
With someone who has the name of teacher ya really not saying much...Rack gear has is uses. I am asking about plugs tho in this thread.
