What do u guys think of this CDRW drive

Yamaha has a new CDRW drive that caught my attention, check it out:

Yamaha CRW-F1

The things that interest me:
DiscTatoo - burn labels/images onto CDRs, however I guess this feature will not be visible with replicated CDs.

Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording -
claims lesser jitters and superior audio quality. Sounds like a good thing to create master CD. Will it cause any problem on replicated CDs? (any Red book issues?)

If this is as good as it claims, I would love to get one to create my master CD and send it for replicated.

Sounds cool. Should make for better sounding CD-Rs.

Not sure if it will make a difference to your replicated CDs though. Dont they digitally extract your audio files to RAM to produce the glass master? Therefore any jitter on your CD wont get passed along. All you have to worry about is the amount of jitter in the glass mastering setup.

Do you know how much it is selling for?
 
ah I see, did not know about the glass master part.

I think the model is around $150

so I guess it is not gonna help me in providing the CD house with a better master media. ( is this statement correct?)
 
Damn, $150 for a CD-RW drive... rather put that towards a DVD-RW drive.
 
Leeking, I am not sure. You had better talk to the CD house and find out what they do to your CD to replicate it eg do they digitally extract the audio files from the CD you give them into a RAM buffer.
 
Lite On's rock. I just put one in a friend's computer, and my sisterinlaw is using one in a firewire enclosure. Both love them.

Fast and reliable.
 
I'm using a Sony 48x12x48...love it! Burns CDs fast and I haven't had any problems yet.
 
When looking at CDRWs, I look at media compatibility and burn quality. With Yamaha no longer in the CDRW market, I'd worry about them updating their firmware to support newer media that enters the marketplace.

I've always been very fond of Ricoh drives. Hard to get in the US, but generally outstanding in terms of media compatibility. Which is not to say that it goes the fastest with all media. It's all about the quality of the write, and even compared to Plextors, the Ricohs I've worked with (20x, 40x, and a 16x Aopen branded Ricoh) have done exceptional jobs at making quality burns on all types of media; they seem to be the most forgiving when it comes to the media used on them. For the good stuff, I'm using printable top Taiyo Yudens or Fujis I sticker label, but if I want to use cheaper Princos, CMCs, or Riteks, I feel safe trusting the burn quality for those CDRs.
 
For a CDR drive, I can recomend Plextor, TDK, and Liteons based on my personal experiance. Never had a Yamaha, so I can't comment.
