I have been recording my vocals on my sterio with a built in karaoke which is really frustrating and I would like to get a much better sound. I am new at this,so if someone could please tell me what type of equipment I could use to record my vocals with another source of music I would really appreciate it,is there such a machine? Please help! :)
Thanx

The very one you are typing on right now..is the machine you want to do the thing you are trying to do. Im not sure if i understood what you wanted but it seems like you would like to record your vocals on top of other songs????
Use your computer! Plug the mic into the Line In jack on your sound card, pop in the cd, select the sources you will record from, and there you have it. All you need is something to record wave files, and there are plenty of programs for that. Your computer should have one on there already, just look around. This is pretty much basic, and Im sure plenty of the dudes on here have better advice then mine. But this is always a start.

Thanx skyline but unfortunately I am on webtv, which really is the pits..I am trying to do a demo, with other music and my voice karaoke has me a little frustrated and I would like a better sound,if you have any ideas please let me know, thanx again!

If you are using a cheap mic, then upgrading that might be the easiest solution. I'm not familiar with your stereo setup, but if you are using a $10 mic then that's probably the main problem. If you feel the stereo is the limitation, then you could look into a 4-track recorder and get a nice mic to go along with it (tons of info on the BBS about both, and it depends on how high quality you want to go and your budget).
Personally, I think your best solution would be to find a decent, inexpensive computer that can handle the recording you want to do. You wouldn't need to get a top of the line machine to handle recording just a backing track and vocal. You could download the software you need like Sky said, and use the PC for so many other things too. Then you could throw that WebTV box in the trash. ;)

Thanx Jon,I honestly cant wait to throw this webtv in the garbage where it belongs :) I want to go with a 4 track and I am in the process of buying a pc,but I am curious as to how I would get the music on the 4 track? can it connect to my sterio or pc? I am very new at this, but I believe I can make a good demo if given a half a chance,I just dont know the electronics all that well,I have been looking up 4 tracks and I am not getting enough information as far as what my music source would be? I can play guitar, sort of :) well lets just say I sing much better than I play, thanx for the advice, but if you have time, could u explain a little about my 4 track options? I hate to sound stupid, but I dont like singing into a sterio and not many people around this part of south jersey have been helpful, thanx again!

1. On an analog 4 track you be recording onto a cassette tape. On a digital for track you would be recording to a hard drive or zip drive.

2. You can easily connect the 4 track to your home cassette deck and stereo system to mixdown and monitor your mixes.

Also, if you have a MAC or PC, depending on how it's configured, you can connect either kind of 4 track to it for mixdown.
