Hi all,
I hope that somone can help me out. I am a fingerstyle guitarist from the UK and I am looking to start recording my compositions so i can create an album. I am a complete novice when it comes to recording equipment and software and was hoping that you kind people could point me in the right direction, with regards as to what kind of mic and equipment i can start with. I dont know if any of this information helps but the music i play is solo fingerstyle and i am playing a TakME80 ( I think ) which is electro acoustic. I do not use the built in pick up, when i put the guitar through an amp the sound is not the same, I use a lot of pinch and flat harmonics when i play and the internal pickup doesnt pick them up so well. If any of you can offer any suggestions on a decent mic and some sort of program or device i can use to record what i am playing and then playback through my pc/laptop then i would be deeply indebted.

Kindest regards
T

The most basic setup would be:

1) computer - scrounge whatever you can... what matters is most is RAM (at least 1 GB)

2) interface - goes between your mic and computer and replaces the junk soundcard that comes with computers - find something on Craigslist or eBay used if possible

3) mic - make this take up the Lion's share of your initial money output, it will have a huge effect (more than any other piece of gear) on the quality recording you'll get.

You might have to buy some cables or they might come with the gear.

You can download a program called Reaper and try it for awhile for free to get started.

It would be nice if you had some speakers of some sort. :)

That's your most basic setup. Search on this site for "inteface" and "best mic" and you'll see lots and lots of types.

Hey Mr. T welcome to the forums.
What Dinty has suggested is right on for you n....... live long and prosper.

But I'm sure once you start installing your daw and start to set everything up you'll be in need of some more answers but once you get past those hurtles it get very fun.
