The more I know the more confused I become. Why can't the companies make it simple. I've pissed away so much money on misleading advertising & hype over the years. MAKE IT STOP!!
My set up: Dell, Windows ME, 1ghz pentium, 256 SDRAM at 133MHz, CD burner/player & 40 gb hard drive.
I usually overdub over previously recorded songs adding guitar tracks & may expand to play indivdual instruments (like to concentrate on my 1st love...guitar). Typical mix: song from a CD on 2 tracks, my guitar tracks on another 4 tracks. I use panning & stereo chorus to seperate things in the mix & would like concentrate on this (placing each track in the mix so that it sticks out but blends).
I use a BOSS GT-3 preamp/processor. This works very well direct. 24 bitA/D conversion, 1/4'' left & right out & MIDI in & out. I'm currently using the Boss BR-8 recording studio but it just dosen't meet my needs.
Question:1) Does a virtual mixer behave like a physical mixer? 2)Do you have to "mouse around" the screen to adjust parimeters 1 at a time? This seems to be a draw back.
I would like: 24 bit/96kHz sound card, an outboard physical mixer compatiable w/ different software, 8 tracks simutainous play at the most, the ability to mix & save the WAV to burn to CD, effects & anything else needed for a killer sound w/ in my guidelnes.
My budget is around $700.00.
Also, complenting a previous comment...mixing is truely an art. I've been mixing & playing for the past 10 years. There's been moments of goosebumps/hair standing on end/pleasure... & times of frustration/didn't play for 1 year/depression. It's a quest for the perfect tone, a money pit & an opportunity for the companies to take advantage of us. I must really love it.
