what stuff do you have now? do you have a pro tools setup already?

The control 24 is just a control surface for protools. You'd still need a digidesign core HD card for your computer, and then some AD/DA converters. The digidesign converters are not all that great though. I'd spend a few extra bones and get two apogee rosettas. However, if you are on a budget the digidesign 192 I/O will work fine, many great albums that get tons of airplay are recorded through them. That will give you the basic protools setup that is used in big recording studios. You still need mics, microphone preamps, and a good set of monitors to record anything though, but that should be a given.

IMHO, if you have to ask these kinds of questions, then maybe you shouldn't be dropping that kind of money into top of the line pro tools system. If you just want a nice little project studio there are MUCH cheaper options. A digi-002 is great for getting started and comes bundled with pro-tools LE. What kind of prior studio experience do you have, and what do you intend to use your studio for? If you give us a little more info I'm sure we can help you out.

Cheaper Pro tools rig

I can get 16 inputs at once into my Digi-002 rack. 4 balanced, 4 unbalanced (use tube mic pres), 8 through adat optical. The control 24 is a waste in my opinoin. If i am going to spend that kind of cash on a rig i would go all analog. this is the setup i use....
8 cheap condensers (apex, oktava,marshall, At) $500
6 dynamics (57's,58's) $250 used
Digi-002 rack $1200 new
aphex 207's tube mic pre's (2) $550 used
Mac dual 867 G4 with 2 monitors $1100 used
alesis monitor one's $100 used
Behringer ada 8000 adat 8 channel mic pre. $225
hafler ta100 monitor amp $150
$3975 is a damn good deal for the results i get!!

The control 24 is just a control surface, it is not a mixing board. It mainly keeps you from having to mix on protools with a mouse. I think it only runs the TDM system. (the $10,000 version)

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask, this is way over your head. If I recall, these Pro Controls are more expesive than som actual mixing boards.
