I want to buy a computer so i can record my guitar. I am new at recording, however i am comfortable using a computer.

What do you guys recommend and prefer for: CPU, ram, HD, sound card, other equipment?

I will would like the quality to be 'very good' so i can record onto CD. I would like something that won't crash, distort, hiss, introduce unwanted noise.........

So how much i got to spend? well i would like all the stuff, except a cdrw, so i got a thousand right now to spend and can inveest some more later.......

conclusion:
What CPU/ram/motherboard combination proves to be error free(is 333, 433, 450Mhz....128Mb ram or more...?

Thanks for your advice!!!

Happy Recording!!!

Well j@ason you didn't say whay your budget was,so I would suggest a p2-450 or higher(preferably a p3-450 or higher)with as much memory as you can afford then add 64meg more,a hard drive that is 7200RPM (scsi is better but ide will work if it has to) with as low an access time as you can find and a good pro quality sound card, also go back and read some of the old threads there are a ton of them on this.oh and Welcome to the BBS

Thanks, i own a small (very small) business, so mentioning a budget won't really matter, cause i can expense it, or get it for 'at cost'.

Sounds what i was thinking P3/P2, 450, with 128 Mb ram, as for the hard disk, what's the sound quality difference between 5400rpm 9ms, or 7200rpm 9ms? is it really noticeable?

There are tons of people raving about different products, but who has a P2/P3 450, 128MB and one of these sound card products/software?

H@ppy Recording!!

Thanks!!

well there is no sound difference between the RPM.... but the prob is the 5400 RPM drive may not be able to record fast enough for high rates like 96khz/24bit recording. don't even think of a 5400 drive for audio... BAAAD idea.... very bad

j@son, search this forum for old posts on these topics. There are more information about DAW specs than you can shake a stick at.
