I took my BR-20 into work and did a sound test with one of the folks here who can play classical guitar. We are in a noisy conference room where you cannot turn off the AC.

I have posted a link to an MP3 in this thread:

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=3020101#post3020101

The sound chain is Oktava MK-319 that I modded in a XY pair, DMP-3 preamp, Tascam BR-20 to virgin Quantegy 456. Burn a CD on a Tascam CD-RW5000 and then rip to mp3 on a typical PC.

Someday I'll have to get my linux box to do the analog to digital direct on the M-Audio Audiophile 196 in my linux box (carma).

I had him listen to himself and got the response that you might expect. "Wow, it never sounds like this when I record at home".

Ethan,

I took a closer listen to this after we talked yesterday.

That piece brings back such memories...my dad used to play it all the time when I was very young. It is imprinted in my mind and so many emotions, memories and even smells come to mind when I hear it...isn't that wonderfully amazing??

I must say though that part of the sensation I believe stems from the recording itself. It really sounds so natural...and flat...I mean that particular piece is one that's all over the fretboard and yet, even on the speakers in my office nothing jumps out as peaky...its very balanced. I, as opposed to one of the comments on your other thread, think the room sounds nice. Overall dry but there is some ambiance there on certain transitions that doesn't distract but adds to the intimacy of the performance. Very nice.

Nice recording. Sounds sweet.

btw, keep forgeting to ask,
how's the analog synth project/idea/plan going, that you've mentioned somewhere in the past as I recall? That's a kind of tough thing to go through, I must say, even though on paper it may not look so complex :)
I am working on analog drum/rhythm synth "system" for more than six months now, and still ton of 'micro' joints to go through... I am starting seeing double , sort of. or Maybe it's just oldness kickin' in , also less and less free time lately, while I still can see 'ok' and able to hold the gun ..heh heh

It is going well. I am using the "buy-it-a-piece-at-a-time" method from synthizers.com. I should have enough modules to make sounds in a week or so. I should post some photos then....

I'm thinking that the synth could be the sound source for testing mods to the DMP-3.....

did you mean synthesizers.com ? :)
Looks like a nice mic preamp test system to me ...heh heh :D
I thought you've got yourself into actually building the synth from the bottom of the void :).

post something up when you get your 'pieces' set so they produce some sound or something, It must be a lot of fun. Arm yerself with a case of patch cables ;)

Nope, I'm using their work and just putting the modules together. Too many projects and too much work in the way. Some things are out of the way now - 100 ton USCG license - Done!

If I ever get to a good point for it I will build an instrument from the ground up - a tracker action pipe organ. I doubt that I will build many of the pipes. I've built a few in the past mostly replacements for broken pipes.
