I just got a new computer. The soundcard I got is made by C-Media. The model is CM18738/C3DXPCI Audio Device. Anyone know anything about this. What it can record at what its bit rate is ect. If I can get decent quality recordings out of it.
My other computer specs are.
Athlon 1700xp
40gb 7200rpm hard drive
256mb ram
windows xp
Running cooledit pro 1.2a and fruity loops 3.0 and steinberg mastering edition plug-in suite software.
Any help appreciated. Thanks Matt Barlow

Hi there,..better you do a search on that,i haven´t seen that card mentioned here before,...

Soundcards by C-Media are usually found on motherboards with alot of integrated features. The soundcard for C-Media stuff is a chip soldered onto the motherboard. I don't recall seeing their products as an actual PCI card before.

I don't have word or adobe installed on this machine but you can find some spec's here:

Unless they made some advancements in their chips, I'd guess this will be one noisy soundcard based on other chips from C-Media. I've read specs of other C-media products with -35dB for the signal/noise which is... quite noisy.

All is not lost though. Provided you have a free PCI slot available, a Sound Blaster Live! or Delta Audiophile will give you a much better result, and not cost you a lot of $$.

I forgot to add in the original post. I also had onboard sound on this computer. Could I use both soundcards and instead of having just the one line in onthe c-media card I could have two line ins. One from each card. Thanks Matt
