Looking into purchasing a midi controller keyboard of some type for home studio, but Im not sure if I am aware of its capabilities.I don't have enough money for a sampler yet so I want it to be compatible with my computer, but I would also at some point want to have the option of using it in in conjunction with a sampler or synth module (Just trying to save bucks in the long run). Are all controller keyboards compatable with all other midi devices?
What kind of programs could be used?
Any suggestions on what to buy?
How may keys should I go with (I dont play piano) will a 62 do or an 82 or what, and what might the price be?
I don't want to spend over $400.00 and even less would be better!
I guess I just need some more info what one of these things can do.
Thanx!

A midi keyboard is going to run the input of the sounds on to your computer sequencer. If you dont have a midi sound device then you won't have sounds. All GM(general midi)devices are compatable. For sequencing you will need cakewalk or cubase. My recommendation to you is to get an alesis qs6 used for about that 400 or less, or save and get a qs 6.1. They come with programs for sequencing and you can use your computer to load samples into your keyboard. You will also be able to use it as a master controller too.So if you got a qs 6 or 6.1, with your computer you'd have a sampler, sequencer, and master controller all in one.(well on the cpu).Oh and you also get sound editing programs too. check out www.alesis.com for more info
