Allo, all. What brand of CD-R would be best to record a master and subsequent copies on? I'm burning on a Tascam 4x CD-R400W. The only brands I've tried are Imation and Teac. The burner didn't like Imations and I can't find Teac's at retail stores. Danke!

For all my masters I have recently switched to Maxwell CD-R pro, which has been developped as a mastering disk, but is available everywhere. I have never had a bad one.
For "normal" copies I use Memorex Music CD-R, with a strong preference for the 650MB version.

Danke

Allrighty, I'll give those a shot. I assume that the Maxwell Pro's would also work well for data backup. Any brands that I shouldn't touch with a ten foot pole?

What happened to.....

Apogee, Quantegy, Hhb......I won't use anything less for my Master copies

My #1 choice is Apogee

TDK for regular burns.....(200 spindle $0.25 cents/pc)

I have bad luck with memorex.... and don't even look at the imation.... Those are only good for saving MS Word, text files....;)

Probably Memorex... But im sure they are manuf'ed to a higher standard.....

If not, well I guess Im a sucker, but my customers like getting them... When I give them final masters on Memorex, they tend to question my quality media standards... (especially ones that don't know anything about recording):)

But Im still sure they are made at a better standard..

Just like Carver (consumer stereo amp's) were made by a "cheapie" company like Panasonic. (not sure exactly which one....

But the specs definately read alot better than Panasonic.....

Same company, Same Factory... Same Process... Better Materials..

Toyota Makes Lexus's....:)

LOL I don't dare to give you the answer:D :D :D
Do me a favour and try the Maxell CD-R pro and tell me what you think of them

CD-Rs

My project is finished. I used a Maxell "Music" CD-R for my master and Memorex (some blue backed and some black backed) for the copies. They worked great! Practically like the original recording. Danke for the suggestion!

I dont think that theres a carver amp made 10,000 miles from the Panasonic factory.

Carver USA

Panasonic Japan

Hmmm

I have had good luck with the RCA discs for cheapo 50 for $20 stuff.

'For Music' CDs

Just a quick post about the 'For Music' CD-Rs that you might buy.

If you purchase a 'For Music' CD it's assumed quality is usually no better than the 'For Data' CD in the same range.

Manufacturers are obliged to mark up 'For Music' CDs to pay PRS, MCPS, Starving Musicians, etc to cover the assumed copyright infringements.

Anyway, I used TDK Studio for masters I have to send away, they come with nicely laid production inlays so you don't forget what to tell the repro house.

Just my two pence (or cents depending on your side of the water).

Not only that - "For Music Only" blanks also come PRE-ENCODED with copy-protection bits set to ON....... with pro gear that allows you to ignore the copy-bit, this is no big deal... but for the majority of users with consumer gear, it could be a problem if they legitimately try to digitally duplicate their own material from one of these CDs.

I use I/O products ink jet printable media. I'd also reccomend CD-Recordable and Mitsui. The stuff you can buy at Best Buy and Circuit City is pretty much like the rest of what they sell.
