Up till last week I listened mostly on a $40 (CAN at that) pair of akg phones, but I just picked up a pair of ma-10s, which seem to be sort of glorified computer speakers. So, basically most of my comments can be ignored.

edit: oh yeah, I bought a decent set of phones to.

20/20bas anywhere from 5:am till 8:00pm..ATM-M40fs after that. But some nights i get brave, and blast the 20/20's till 11:00:) ...just some nights:D

Tannoy Proto-J's

Sharp Stereo System with bookshelf type speakers

On my PC, I have a large Technics amp, with KLH 8" bookshelf speakers, but the tweeters have been replaced with liquid cooled Gefco domes. YUMMMYYYYY.

Home-made 4" singles.

This brings up an interesting point. Is there such a thing as creating music for high performance systems vs. low?

Can you mix things specifically knowing that they will only sound good on high perf. monitors and systems while at the same time knowing that they will come out like 'BBDFDHBHBBBBHDHHBHBHDHHHEH' on a pair of little computer speakers?

Should a good mix come out good on all systems or can you actually try to create the "Ferrari" of music (high performance, but not for the average citizen).

Event 20/20 passives powered by a Hafler TA 1600 amp.

Short Balanced connect from Delta 1010 to power amp.

In my sleep environment a set of Advent speakers powered by a SONY receiver fed over a ridiculously long unbalanced run.

At work an SB 64 thru Altec Lansing w/ subwoofer system.

A good mix WILL translate well across most speaker systems. The difference in sound should be due to the difference in speaker, NOT due to sonic aberrations in the balance of your mix.

I don't know if I told you, but I took your advice on getting the Yorkville YSM1p's Blue Bear from my old topic about what monitors to buy. Thanks :) .

On the computer I use a pair of Optimus Titanium headphones.

Not the greatest for judging an overall mix,but I can really hear the sound of the individual instruments.
I post my comments accordingly.

Headphones...here at work, 2 sets of Sony's-I usually go with the Sony mdr-v600. I've been using these headphones to listen and critique songs for over a year now and I think I'm used to them. I also listen multiple times to every song (sometimes 10x or more!)

Lately-Ive been mixing on phones too (out of necessity)-and don't find it too much better or worse than trying to learn to translate mixes from a pair of 20/20's.
